Overview

Personal profile

I am an associate professor at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where I have been linked since 2012. My education includes the title of civil engineer obtained at Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Medellín, 2001). I complemented my studies with a master's in Water Resources Management at Universidad de Los Andes (Bogotá; 2003). In 2012, I got a doctorate in Water Resources from Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (Spain). My research interests include:

- Climate change and variability: Data assimilation in hydrological models. Use of climate models (both reanalysis and hindcasts) to study extreme events; analysis of inter-annual anomalies, deviation, long-term changes, and future trends of different hydroclimatological variables; construction of ensembles of hydroclimatological variables, considering non-stationarity; creation of risk maps that present the evolution of the variables studied; social, environmental and economic effects of climate change and variability; relationship between climate variability and the risk of natural disasters.

- Remote sensing: Treatment of satellite images at different levels, from geometric and radiometric corrections to constructing maps of variables associated with the images (e.g., surface temperature, evaporation from the surface) or derived from statistical relationships. (e.g., water quality maps); classification of satellite images, particularly for detecting flooded areas using digital terrain models as support.

- Computing applied to hydrology and GIS development: Development of new computer tools for hydrology and open source GIS (particularly SIG-GRASS).
