Organization profile

Organization profile

Ion channels are molecules that are expressed in excitable and non-excitable cells, where they fulfill functions related to the transduction of sensory stimuli, proliferation, differentiation, among other processes and whose alteration is related to the development of various pathologies. This research hotbed is focused on the study of the functional and structural aspects of BK-type channels and TRP family channels.BK channels are of great importance given their ability to integrate electrical signals and intracellular signaling. For their part, TRP channels are associated with thermal sensation and the transduction of pain stimuli.

Research fields

The projects developed in the line of research in Ion Channels are framed in the following areas: Determination of the role of BK and TRP channels in cellular alterations related to obstructive sleep apnea;Study of ion channels of the TRP family as molecular targets for the treatment of chronic pain;Role of TRP channels in the physiology of mesenchymal cells.
