Resumen

The departments of the Pacific and Caribbean coast of Colombia are classified in different ranges. The information available in the institutional repositories does not allow differentiating the proportion of the expenditure destined to basic sanitation works and particularly for the improvement of the quality of water for consumption. This research demonstrates the behavior of the water quality risk index (WQRI, IRCA in Spanish) and contrasts the variation of this index with respect to investment for expenditure and the departmental performance indicator. The study reveals that health problems arising from the quality of drinking water persist.
