Abstract
Introduction. Post–renal transplant adaptation differs markedly from that experienced during dialysis therapy. Age, type of disease, duration of treatment, socioeconomic status, cultural level, and caregiver dependence significantly influence the perception of quality of life. The objective was to evaluate the quality of life in patients enrolled in a renal transplant program in Colombia one year after their intervention. Methodology. Descriptive quantitative study in 158 patients. Quality of life was measured using the EUROQOL-5D-3L questionnaire and the visual analogue scale of perceived health status. Results. Eighty-nine percent of participants presented an adequate health status in the dimensions of mobility, self-care, and daily activities. In contrast, 25.3% reported moderate pain or discomfort, and 24.6% manifested moderate anxiety or depression. No significant differences were found in quality of life or health status according to gender, religion, educational level, or socioeconomic stratum. Absence of pain was observed in 72.78%, absence of limitations in daily activities in 91.13%, and absence of mobility problems in 89.87%. The average score on the visual analogue scale was 95.70, indicating a positive perception of health status. Discussion. The quality of life of the patients was affected in pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression, coinciding with findings reported in previous studies. Conclusions. Quality of life one year after renal transplantation is satisfactory, confirming the value of transplantation as a therapeutic option.
