Resumen

The construction of buildings with the industrialized system of thin reinforced concrete (CR) walls has increased in the country in the last two decades due to reduced construction times, saving materials and labor. This type of buildings is built in all areas of seismic threat, with a wide range of heights and with varied geometries in plan linked directly to the architectural distribution of the spaces. However, in different tests on prototype walls carried out by CEER (Colombian Earthquake Engineering Research Network) it has been found that its performance is not satisfactory under lateral loads.

In the present work of degree develops a comparative analysis of the seismic response of two buildings of thin walls of CR designed with conventional techniques and using a system of seismic isolation (elastomeric isolators). The main objective is to determine the advantages of basic seismic isolation over a structure designed under a traditional earthquake-resistant methodology.

The analysis of the structures is carried out by means of nonlinear response history analysis (NLRHA) and the comparison variables are as follows: the vibration period, the shear forces, accelerations, displacements and the floor drifts. Additionally, the comparison of direct costs of materials for buildings with fixed base and isolated base is made.
