Resumen

The retinal blood vessels are very sensitive to the changes in the blood pressure. Those changes are reflected as arteriolar narrowing which changes the vessel caliber, and modify the arterious venous rate (AVR). This is an important indicator of the presence of arterial hypertension, and may be used for the prevention of further consequences caused by the hypertension such as heart attack, brain stroke and renal failure. Through the measure of the vessels caliber, it is possible to get the AVR, a measurement considered as an important sign of the presence of Hypertension. A system is developed for measuring the AVR and determine the presence of Hypertensive Retinopathy and the results are evaluated.
