Resumen
Rotaviruses are icosahedral, nonenveloped viruses with a genome consisting of 11 segments of double-stranded RNA. They are the leading cause of severe diarrhea in young children in countries without vaccination programs, and accounted for the death of approximately 200,000 children less than 5 years of age worldwide in 2013, primarily in developing countries. Two main RV vaccines have been approved for use in more than 100 of countries, where they have effectively reduced the disease burden and death rate due to this pathogen.
