Resumen

Introduction:
An occupational accident according to the International Labour Organization is an unexpected and unplanned occurrence arising out of or in connection with work, which results in one or more workers incurring personal injury (1). The characterization of occupational accidents in a healthcare context is relevant for the implementation of preventive measures, follow-up measures, and protocols to reduce the incidence of these events, which represent an issue beyond the health and the economy of a healthcare entity and its employees. This work is the continuation of a three-year analysis of data on occupational accidents in a high complexity Hospital in Bogota, Colombia.

Methodology:
According to a provided database of occupational accidents in a high-complexity hospital in Bogota Colombia, a descriptive analysis was performed based on a retrospective cohort of 2023. The study variables presented in Table 1 were defined, then manually tabulated by months for analysis and graphed in the same way for interpretation.

Results
In 2023 the were a total of 204 occupational accidents. August has the highest incidence of accidents (16.67%), while Thursdays had the highest incident rate of the week (20.5%). The age group with the most accidents was 26–33 years old (34.2%). Female workers had the most occupational accidents (81%). The hour range with the most accidents was 09:00–13:00. Care workers had the most accidents (79.8%). Workers with seniority > 7 years presented the most accidents (34%). The hand was the body region most affected by accidents (29.9%). Luxation and sprains were the most common injuries (32.3%), caused mostly by exertion (29.9%). The most common unsafe practice was the adoption of an unsafe position (46.9%).

Conclusion
Results corresponded mostly to the previous research done with the same database in previous years. Female workers had the most accidents, which could be due to most female workers in the hospital. Nonetheless, measures should be taken to approach this specific population. Due to the high percentage of accidents caused by unsafe positioning, all workers should be advised to maintain safe practices while keeping a safe position. The high incidence of accidents in workers with seniority higher than 7 years should be investigated to determine if the cause is due to unsafe practices or higher procedure assumptions.
