Notes on FemZines from Colombia (comment on zines, punk, and feminism)

In this dual piece, Minerva Campion and Rapiña explore their overlapping interests in punk, feminism, and fanzine culture in Colombia, telling a panoramic history of zines made by women. Minerva explores the origins of a fanzine called Sustantivo. Authored by Patricia Arenas at the end of the 1980s, it denounces machismo and homophobia in general and specifically within the Medellín punk scene. Rapiña looks at the vitality of the new scene of women-produced fanzines and independent publishing projects, which are made further visible in her zine library and itinerant exhibition project called “La Maleta Fanzinera.” Via her own account and an interview segment with two other Colombian zinesters, she showcases different independent editorial voices emergent in Colombia.
