Resumen

An analysis is carried out of the main causes of the social mobilization that took place in Spain in July 1997, motivated by the criminal act committed by ETA against Miguel Angel Blanco, a council member of the Popular Party. The social movilization was based on two elements: previous beliefs that give no legitimization to violence, and the role of the mass media and other social agents that transformed that criminal act in a topic of high cognitive importance for the citizens.
