Resumen

Cataracts significantly impair vision and are predominantly treated through surgery, specifically phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. Training residents in cataract surgery is essential for medical schools. This article outlines the initial development stages of a cataract surgery training model, detailing the methodology, including a comprehensive literature review, surgical practice analysis, and the creation of prototypes that accurately mimic ocular structures and textures. The model underwent validation by ophthalmologists, who offered feedback on its accuracy and realism. The validation results and the identified opportunities for enhancement are discussed. The iterative development approach enabled the replication of realistic surgical conditions, thereby improving the tools and techniques used in training cataract surgery residents.
