N2 - Births in a population are significant because they help us understand the demographic transition of populations and the consequences that these changes can bring in various political, economic, and health-related aspects. For this reason, it is essential to have data that allows us to analyze, especially in the rural areas of developing countries such as Colombia, where this data is rarely documented or studied. Notably, literature on demographic changes related to modernization in rural areas is scarce, so this paper tries to compile data found in official national resources in recent years of births in rural Colombia (from 2019 to 2022) obtained from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE for its denomination in Spanish) and compare it to the national rates to denote how these change in the different departments and regions. We found that the total number of births has decreased in the period analyzed and that the behavior of births between Colombia's rural and urban areas has been different. However, the number of births nationwide has been decreasing, and the behavior in the total number of births has been variable. There was a slight increase in childbirth in 2020-2021, with a later decrease in 2022; on the other hand, in rural areas, a reduction of births in 2020-2021 was found with a subsequent increase in childbirth in 2022, which may be due to different sociocultural factors specific for different zones.
