TRANS.ARCH - Archives in Transition: Collective Memories and Subaltern Uses

This project has two main objectives. First, we would like to collect, describe and analyse a series of examples of the new uses of archives deployed by collectives of migrants and sexual dissidents in Europe and in Latin America. In connection to this we will focus on a) the process of building new archives; b) the use and re-functionalization of existing archives to produce social representations of different communities and political and artistic interventions. Second, we will undertake a theoretical, methodological and technical revision of the notion of ¿archive¿ reflecting its ¿transitional¿ status. This will involve an inspection of the practices that constitute it (acquisition, ordering, digitisation, centralisation, coding, accessibility, edition, activism, representativeness) based on the new uses in question.
