Periodontal disease and rheumatic diseases (two of them, osteoartrtis and rheumatoid arthritis) are chronic inflammatory and infectious diseases -the first second with a probable geneticcommitment have been associated by the ability to do some periodontal pathogens and bacteremia colonize the joint tissues of synovial joints, particularly Porphyromonas gingivalis a gram negative anaerobic bacteria which has the ability to bacterial and human proteins citrulinar activating the immune and inflammatory responses in a way that can trigger or exacerbate the clinical picture of rheumatoid arthritis in a patient with genetic suceptbilidad. aim: The presence of periodontal pathogens in synovial fluid from patients diagnosed with rheumatic disease in a clinic in Cali, from the identification, quantification and comparison of these pathogens isolated from periodontal pockets and synovial fluid.
