Oxygen therapy for lower respiratory tract infections in children between 3 months and 15 years of age.

Acute lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in children under five years of age. There are multiple guidelines and protocols that recommend oxygen therapy as an important treatment component for severe acute LRTI (Arango 1999; Shann 1993). There is not evidence of it's efectiveness in the treatmen of acute LRTI and no specific guidelines on the method of oxygen delivery are outlined.
