Descripción
Which are the epistemological and methodological consequences of Rational Choice Theory's ontological presuppositions for the apprehension of domination? Is it consistent an explanation of the phenomenon of domination build on a theory of action based on agents who act just by desire? are physical and institutional constraints equally decisive for the constitution of social relations? These are the kind of questions that this project deals with. Its aim is to construct a conception of domination based on the metatheoretical articulation of Lovett's general theory of domination and Searle's social ontology with a particular interest on making explicit the implications of this exercise for empirical analysis. Concretely, this project proposes to identify the ontological presuppositions of Lovett's general theory of domination, making explicit the limitations of Rational Choice Theory for the apprehension of the phenomenon of domination. This exercise is to be done by a critical evaluation in the light of Searle's social ontology. Then, the question is to conserve the variables for the explanation of domination presented by Lovett, but reconstructing them from Searle's social ontology. The intention is to present an alternative conception for the explanation of domination, considering that ontological variations have epistemological and methodological consequences.
