Nature-based solutions (NBS) for restoration and rehabilitation of urban ecosystems

This research project looks for options of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) to contribute to sustainable urbanization in Latin American and European countries. It will explore around 20 case studies in these regions (in about 10 countries, 5 in each continent) to identify possible solutions that NBS can contribute with. The project includes test beds opportunities (pruebas de concepto) with pilot interventions in the selected cases. The grant may provide start up resources for those interventions, but it is necessary to find partners that can co-finance them.The University of Sheffield is coordinating the consortium and is leading the application. The Javeriana University (and the principal investigator) was invited to take part in the consortium due to the important relationship the universities have (see for example the Colciencias and Newton funded project ¿Improbable Dialogues¿, or the work developed for ¿Colombia Cientifica¿ bid). Each participating consortium member needs to select a case study (that may comprises several ¿sub-cases¿ or transects), develop it and contribute to the general application. Also, it needs to find the local partners who can contribute with resources, capacities and knowledge building. The application process is organized in two phases, the first deadline is at the end of February 2019, and those selected in this first round will need to present a detailed project at the end of September 2019. Final results will be announced around March 2020, and the project will begin soon after. As part of the application building process, a workshop with delegates of the consortium will meet at the Javeriana the 20, 21 and 22 of November, 2018.This proposal aims to look for support for the Javeriana participation, to develop the case study (that comprises 3 or 4 sub-cases), to look for co-funding and co-creating partners, to contribute to the general application and to organize and implement the consortium workshop to be held at the university in November (see programme attached). The funding proposal goes until the second phase (September 2019), but if we are not selected in February 2019 to continue, we won¿t use the correspondent resources and give them back to the Research Vice-rectory.
