Descripción

Evidence shows and actual concern on identifying risks factors related to health problems of children. Most of the main causes of death and morbidity in children ages 0 to 5 years old, are related to obesity, overweight or malnutrition. Health behaviors that are part of their lifestyles, such as eating habits, physical activity and sedentary behaviors, have shown an important role in this health problems. In the recent years, research and interventions have focus on parenting influences in children healthy habits, considering the role of child rearing in the formation of behaviors and attitudes. also, and interest in early childhood has grown, since healthy habits are established in first years of life and remains in adulthood. The purpose of the present study is to characterize the parenting styles and practices used by parents of children ages 1 to 5 years to promote healthy habits (concerning to physical activity, eating habits and consumption of digital entertainment). a qualitative study will be conducted with 20 parents from different socioeconomic status, using in-depth interviews. The purpose of phase I will serve to construct a measure to assess a bigger sample of parents, and to design an intervention to promote best parenting styles and practices related to healthy habits. In phase II, the intervention will be conducted and evaluated.
