Integrating socio-economic and hydro-ecological modeling of the Chingaza Paramo to evaluate its ecosystem service provision to the Bogota River Basin via the application of a WEF Nexus framework

The Chingaza Paramo is part of the overall water management systems within the Bogota River Basin, connecting to that system via an interbasin transfer operated by the Bogota Aqueduct. This imported water combines with water supply generated within the basin, to support a full range of WEF Nexus services. An existing WEAP application of the Bogota River Basin represents the combined water supply, and all of the relevant WEF Nexus demands in the basin: irrigation in the La Ramada Irrigation District, hydropower generation in the Tequendama system, and water supply in Bogota and surrounding communities. The proposed project will generate an analytical tool to demonstrate synergies and tradeoffs between these WEF Nexus users under future scenarios, validating the utility of the WEF Nexus approach.
