Descripción
From 2003 to 2012 Colombia´s national currency has reached a real appreciation of 56%. Since appreciation can hurt competitiveness, there is an open debate about whether it has generated deindustrialization in the economy, the so called Dutch Disease hypothesis. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the real exchange rate in the performance among the industrial sectors during the first decade of the XXI century, the greatest appreciation period in recent Colombian history. Industrial information of the annual Manufacturing surveys will be used, along with macroeconomic variables to establish whether real appreciation had caused deindustrialization: reduction in output and employment in the sectors. Cross-department cross-sector regressions will be used, therefore, a panel data approach will be employed for this study.
