The present study aims to: (a) explore if executive functions, motivation for reading and writing, academic performance, type of school and age could predict the reading and writing performance of school children; (b) establish the individual contribution of each of the aforementioned variables to explain the variance of reading and writing skills. 160 students with typical development, aged 7 to 10 years old will participate, that assist to public and private schools. Half of them with low academic performance and the other half with high academic performance. all children will be individually assessed with a questionnaire of motivation for reading and writing tests, reading and writing tests and executive functioning tests for inhibition, working memory and planning. It is expected to find that age, level of executive functioning, motivation for reading and writing, level of academic performance and type of school will predict the reading and writing performance of school children.
