Descripción

(Tomado del proyecto enviado a la entidad financiadora en EE.UU): The absence of a morphological matrix with a taxon sample comparable to that in recent large scale molecular studies remains a limiting factor, as does a synthesis of available DNA sequences, augmented to ensure that the two datasets are as taxonomically comparable, and complete as possible. These limitations will be addressed by the proposed study, which will construct a morphological supermatrix, comprising 247 exemplar species, representing all 12 currently recognized families and 79 (93%) genera of Natanura (ingroup) and 8 families of non-Natanuran (outgroup) Neobatrachia. Taxa will be scored for ca. 400 morphological characters from adults(myology: 60; visceral anatomy: 15; osteology: 180; external morphology: 50); larvae (external morphology: 50; buccopharyngeal morphology: 40); and breeding behavior (7).
