Colombia is home to a significant diversity of wild Vanilla species. Soils in Colombia commonly present high acidity and low availability of nutrients, in particular phosphorus. Nonetheless, there are plants that develop relationships with microorganisms in order to overcome these limitations. The rhizosphere bacteria that solubilize phosphorus are of particular importance. This study aims to carry out the first evaluation of the diversity of phosphorus solubilizing bacteria present in the rhizosphere of wild Vanilla species in the Valle del Cauca, through their isolation and identification. Different selective media for the isolation of phosphate solubilizing bacteria will be evaluated for their ability to obtain isolates. Bacteria strains will be identified using DNa sequences for the 16S Ribosomal gene. Isolates will be subjected to cryopreservation protocols, and their re-activation success evaluated after three and six months under preservation conditions. This study will provide important information to facilitate the development of standardized protocols for the implementation of ex situ conservation strategies for Vanilla species, important biological resources for the production of the natural vanilla extract.
