Descripción
Patients with mental disorders have higher oral morbidity compared to the general population, so that psychiatric patients have a greater experience of dental caries and periodontal disease than do non-psychiatric patients. This situation has been attributed to a number of reasons, including the depersonalization of mental disorders, the motor difficulty to perform adequate oral hygiene, the adverse effects of some drugs and the lack of interest of medical professionals and caregivers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to characterize the dental health status of a group of hospitalized patients of a mental health institution of Cali (Colombia), obtaining the COP index (teeth with caries, teeth with obturations and teeth lost ), Correlated with socio-demographic information obtained from a survey.
