Dinamicas familiares en el proceso de revelacion y aceptacion de la orientacion sexual de hijos gays e hijas lesbianas en cali – colombia.

This research proposal aims to analyze family dynamics facing the sexual orientation revelation and the acceptance process in a group of families with gay and lesbian sons and daughters in Cali, Colombia, given that family dynamics which constructed, are fundamental for development and wellbeing of its members. Nevertheless, the sexual orientation revelation process of any family member, brings about several reactions that could facilitate or block the process of acceptance and coping. This process of acceptance is usually difficult for parental figures considering belief systems and stereotypes built through life experiences. This study privileges a qualitative research approach, with a narrative design, where experience is understood and seen as a story that generate patterns and ways of meaning making, through observation and analysis of biographical data derived from in depth interviews, offered by 15 families, whose gay and lesbian children ages range are from 18 to 24 years. a purposefully selected sample will be used, using the “snow ball” technique where some informants will facilitate access to the desired population. Data will be treated using theme analysis. This project contributes to the initiatives which the PUJ University have been developing since 2016 in the framework of the “Catedra UNESCO” focused on gender equality, as well as the strategic guidelines on health, equality and social inclusion, priorities for the University. Finally, this proposal is anchored on “Bienestar, Trabajo, Cultura y Sociedad” group, research line of Families, Gender and Sexuality, the undergraduate and graduate programs at the PUJ Department of Social Sciences.
