Abstract

sent study, the occurrence of wild birds (pigeon, sparrow, starling, swallow, other species) in 2 dairy cow units was systematically investigated during 5 months by point and line taxation. A total number of 20,144 specimen of birds was registered during the observational period with clear differences in the number of wild birds between the farms. The 4 species-groups starling, sparrow, pigeon and swallow in-cluded 99.5 % of all bird activities, where summarizing both farms the sparrows (45%) took the largest percentage, followed by starlings (30%), pigeons (17%) and swallows (5%). The different bird species showed some dynamics during time and at the given farm, resulting in approaches for the control of bird populations. Starlings prefer to be on the feed tables. The most important goal is to make the cow shed unattractive for birds as a breeding place. Also, the birds' entries must be prevented.
