Abstract
Introduction: In Colombia, the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with psoriasis have been described. However, to date, no studies have explored dermatologists’ treatment preferences for psoriasis. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a survey completed by dermatologists affiliated with the Colombian Association of Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery (AsoColDerma). Data analysis included frequencies and percentages for qualitative variables and measures of central tendency for quantitative variables. Results: A total of 56 dermatologists participated in the study. Of these, 58.8% indicated phototherapy or topical treatments as their preferred first-line therapy. Additionally, 58.9% reported transitioning to biologic therapy following the failure of conventional systemic treatment, and 53.6% preferred interleukin 17 (IL-17) inhibitors as the initial choice for biologic therapy. Conclusions: Dermatologists in Colombia follow the global trend of using classical systemic therapy as a first-or second-line option prior to initiating biologic therapy (1-3). The preferred first-line biologic agents are the anti-IL-17 agents available in the country. This is the first study in Colombia to characterize psoriasis treatment practices and provides insights into therapeutic trends, paving the way for future studies to assess changes in clinical behavior based on new knowledge and updated national information.
