THE MODERATING EFFECT OF GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION ON THE RISK PERCEPTION IN THE INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This study adds to our understanding of industrial symbiosis by investigating the moderating impact of regional localization on the link between risk perception and the adoption of industrial symbiosis practices in a developing nation. We scrutinized our data using a comprehensive approach and a geographical weighting analysis, allowing for a detailed study of each variable within specific geographical settings. The emphasis was on enterprises from various economic sectors that consume a significant amount of energy and engage in differing degrees of industrial symbiosis processes. Our findings highlight the critical significance of financial and performance risks in defining the decision-making process for implementing industrial symbiosis. Regional differences, in particular, emerge as critical factors, holding substantial influence over the successful implementation of changes in waste disposal techniques and the resulting results. Thus, this study adds a holistic perspective to the area by shining light on the intricate interplay between risk perception, regional localization, and the industrial symbiosis adoption process in the setting of a developing country.
