Abstract
Objective. To understand the social meanings of the construction of gender identity in five trans women from the city of Cali, between 20 and 30 years old. Methodology. Qualitative research with thematic analysis. Semi-structured interviews and interactive techniques were used. Results: Different beliefs and evaluations about gender mediated by resources and barriers are evidenced within the construction of identity through three stages of transit. Conclusions. Gender identity is constructed thanks to the resignification of the belief system and the mobilization of women through the recognition of the desire to be a woman, as well as the appropriation of forms of expression and resources. It is recommended for future studies to research about family dynamics and their accompaniment in the construction of gender identity in trans people, as well as couple relationships from a non-heteronormative and non-binary perspective.
