Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study that eval-uated the impact of musical training processes in public schools of Bogotá in the first phase of the lo-cal administration’s program ‘Proyecto Jornada Es-colar 40 Horas’. An interdisciplinary team (music, education, and psychology) evaluated a population of approximately 373 students from 29 schools. We obtained a diagnosis of the development of musical knowledge of the students, as well as of the impact of educational processes on non-musical dimen-sions such as self-concept, self-esteem, empathy and motivation. The quality and scope of teaching strategies used in the classroom, the perception of the process by students, teachers, parents and principals of schools; the level of adequacy of infra-structure and material resources used, were also diagnosed. . The final product of the project is a battery of tests that may be useful for short and me-dium term monitoring of this public program and its impact on the dimensions addressed through-out the study.
