Abstract

Introduction The renal epidermoid cyst is a rare condition, with few reports on the literature. A review is performed on the available literature and a description of a case of renal epidermoid cyst is presented. Materials and methods A case of a 45-year-old woman with right lumbar pain and intermittent gross haematuria. Using urotomography (computed tomography urography) lesion was observed in the right renal pelvis, the pyelogram shows a filling defect and the pyelo-ureterorenoscopy showed a huge stone in the upper calix. With these findings, a percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) is performed. The histology confirmed the diagnosis of renal epidermoid cyst. Conclusions The renal epidermoid cyst is a rare condition with few reports on the literature and its aetiology is still uncertain. So far, in the few reported cases, the majority of the kidney cysts are located in the renal parenchyma, and just a few of them are located in the collector system. The management of all the cases has been made using partial or radical nephrectomy.
