Abstract

This monograph offers a contribution to the reflection on the identity of campus ministry addressing the question about its university essence and nature and proposing a common framework and foundation that may guide, make more pertinent and assertive its Kerigmatic misión, and enrich the formative perspective of universities and its impact on society.First, it presents the essence and foundation of pastoral care from the biblical figure of the shepherd -his identity, mission, challenges and fallibility - enriched with the theological-political reflection of Metz and in dialogue with Foucault's thoughts on pastoral power. Then it presents nine fundamental elements of its university nature and identity, arising from the origin, essence and reason of being of the university, enriched by the contribution of cardinals, educators, philosophers, historians, magisteriums, mystics, bishops, popes, pastoralists, presidents of universities, saints, theologians - Catholic and Orthodox - and biblical texts. It shows that a university pastoral must be completely pastoral and completely university. If it is no longer pastoral, it will lose its identity and be confused with the other welfare, formation and social responsibility university initiatives. If it stop being university, it will lose its identity, relevance, and impact on the institution that hosts it and on the society in which it is immersed.
