Abstract
This article shows the process of creating new settlements associated with the popula-tion process of the sector called the “road” of the municipality of San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño, in the Colombian Pacific region. Based on information collected through field visits and secondary sources such as associated bibliography and census records of the municipality to 2019, is studied the impact generated by the project of the Nariño railway between 1924 and 1944, its commission-ing and the period after the operation of the train. In the context of the 20th century, the railway of Nariño was an opportunity for development focused on the infrastructure, transport, and cargo with regional reach, which failed to consolidate due to its economic failure, which triggered the physical dismantling and erasure of the Turaco’s collective memory.
