Abstract

For the first time in the humanity's history, the threshold of 50 % of the world population inhabiting cities centers has been exceeded. In view of foregoing thing, it is necessary to incorporate the concept of urban biodiversity, understood as the great number of species that live and interact in the big cities, where the human societies and its institutional frameworks are who define the habitats and the conditions for the survival of other forms of life. In this way, the cities include a mosaic of habitats that are home to many different species of fauna and flora, many of which find its ecological ideal precisely in these urban spaces. n the search of implementing the aims of the national politics in the local area, the Policy for the Management of the Biodiversity Conservation in the Capital District (SDA-CI 2010), was formulated, In fact, above-mentioned policy exposes one of the first exercises of environment policy urban in Latin America and constitutes the first step towards the biodiversity conservation in urban-rural scenes, in order to maximize the conditions of habitability and sustainability of the Capital District and of the surrounding territory.
