Abstract
Studies on the participation of women in the public sphere tend to focus on representativeness. However, the inclusion of women in the public sphere is not confined to an electoral issue. State administration also requires public servants whose legal basis does not emanate from the process of voting. This is why the study of the administrative composition of the state, in regards to gender, becomes relevant. Based on this premise, the article presents the advances of Colombia in terms of women’s participation in the public sector. The aim is to provide a theoretical approach to the participation of women in the public sphere and to analyze the country’s advances towards substantive equality between the sexes. In particular, the article calls for a theoretical approach to democratic parity in Colombia, which requires a vision of democracy beyond the sole process of voting
