Abstract
Objective: To describe the characteristics of breastfeeding of mothers who received postpartum counseling at the HUSI three months after the intervention, and the satisfaction they had in the first month with such counseling. Design: Observational, descriptive, prospective cohort. Telephone follow-up three months after delivery. Interventions: Monthly telephone survey for three months to each participant. Methodology: Absolute and relative frequencies for most of the variables and measure of central tendency for the numerical variable. Results: 49 participants, average age: 27.8 years, most of the participants lived in a consensual union, were employed, and belonged to socioeconomic stratum 3. About 70% exclusively breastfed during follow-up, and 76% gave it for more than 3 months. More than 50% of mothers who did not exclusively breastfeed described decreased milk supply as the main reason. For 65% of the participants, the counseling was completely satisfactory, and more than 80% were motivated to exclusively breastfeed. Conclusions: Most of the participants gave exclusive breastfeeding for more than 3 months. The counseling was satisfactory, it motivated the participants to give exclusive breastfeeding and contributed to the resolution of problems.
