Abstract
Recognizing the importance of the theoretical and practical reflection of the digital medium within the development of new experiences in the visual representation of the image, it is necessary to continue questioning the implications that as an expressive object has produced in areas such as artistic creation, fundamentally, with the purpose of understanding the qualities that its technology has been able to grant to the development of languages inherent to its condition. Without ignoring the relevance that the research has had in the specific field of digital graphics, it is proposed from a theoretical study of video games, and an analysis of their concepts through the art influenced by them, a perspective that aims to generate an alternate form of exploration and knowledge of the digital medium as an expression tool. Starting from a conceptual revaluation of the graphic and the digital, space is determined as one of the elements on which possibly the graphic creation acquires new expressive qualities, thus questioning the screen as a space-material support that grants unique qualities to the representation of the image when presenting itself as a surface that is characterized now by having depth. Based on a so-called active expressive state of the digital medium, experimented through the graphical interface, it is understood a multiple nature of the screen that generates different levels of spatiality, distinguishing from the raised theoretical approach three forms of spatial comprehension that are directed to their analysis as container, as content and as a point of perception. On that basis we arrive at a conceptualization of the screen in which the post-surface idea is introduced, which is understood as a space of action that formally defines a material support with variable properties of structure, texture, depth and location that are inherent to their sensitive condition as a dematerialized plane and that expressively affect the construction of the visual image.
