Abstract

Goals. investigate the circumstances that intervened in the choice of female sterilization
as a planning method for women in social vulnerability in the city of Bogotá. Methodology. A qualitative approach was made to 12 women who had been sterilized in the last 10 years, through indepth interviews, recorded, transcribed and with information analyzed by generating categories
from the discourse. Results and conclusions. In the interviews, the lack of knowledge about sexual
and reproductive rights is reiterated, there is a relationship between the void in the counseling for
the initiation of fertility regulation methods and, above all, a loss of autonomy in decision-making,
permeated by the system of health, which includes the lack of information regarding the performance of the procedure, situations that create consequences at the physical, reproductive and mental health levels of women, who, even for gender reasons, are mostly vulnerable.
