Abstract

This chapter analyzes the correspondence between the women
Gaitanistas and Jorge Eliécer Gaitán during the 1940s. The
letters, beyond being personal, served as means of denunciation
and political communication. This analysis seeks to highlight the
female voices in a context of violence and repression, and
recognize their contributions to the Gaitanista movement, which,
although led by men, had broad female support.
