Abstract
The author of this article explores some aspects of the critical works of Edward Said in order to reflect on the problem of the autonomy of literary and critical works. He considers these works from an intertextual perspective, as belonging to social and textual forces external to themselves. The article explores the tension, present in Said’s work, between seeing literary texts as parts of a web of repetition and a geographical network of power, and seeing them as attempts to differentiate themselves from this repetition and to construct a relatively autonomous textual individuality
