Abstract
This article revises the dynamics that characterized the relation between Iraq and the West along the 20th century and that were the demonstration of the pretensions of domi-nation of the great powers and their disputes over a region in which interests and strategic resources have converged historically. Those pressures have generated and exacerbated the regional and internal complexities and they have had, without doubt, a decisive influ-ence in the destiny of the country, still defined by the interference of the external powers.
