Abstract
Interpretation of arterial blood gases should always be done in the light of the clinical history. However, there are cases that pose doubts during interpretation. Recently, Maldonado, Gonzalez et al. published the normal values of arterial blood gases in Bogota (2640 meters above sea level). After reviewing the development and interpretation of the Siggaard-Andersen nomogram, we propose to use the nomogram as modified for altitudes from 2000 to 2999 meters above sea level, as a simple graphic aid for unifying and interpreting arterial blood gases in everyday clinical practice.
