Abstract
The expulsion of the Society of Jesus from the New Kingdom of Granada on 1 August, 1767, did not put an end to San Bartolomé Seminar which had been under the Company’s rule since its foundation in 1605. In this paper, the circumstances and causes that contributed to that continuity are analysed, using documents held at the Javeriano Historical Archive Juan Manuel Pacheco SJ, and specifically the information related to the creation of the Royal Bartolino Fellowships in 1604, the collegiate fellows, and the incorporation of the Santa Fe administrative elites into the institution. An examination of the dual administration of the Seminar from 1767 onwards shows this to have been an essential part of its continuity.
