Incidencia de la distancia de visibilidad sobre la accidentalidad en carreteras

Abstract

Different studies have been developed in order to quantify the influence of sight distance on road accident by using deterministic and probabilistic techniques. However, said studies employed in their analyses sight distances in two dimensions (2D) and operating speeds obtained by prediction models. This research project presents a reliability study, in which the effect of stopping sight distance variability on road accident occurrence, evaluated through Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) that incorporate Probability of non-compliance (Pnc). For this purpose the following were used: the geometric design of an existing simple two-way road belonging to a national primary road-network, the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), the operating speeds measured in the field, the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), and accident records during the previous six years were used.
