Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of implementing the international financial reporting standards (IFRS) for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Colombian palm sector (planting and extraction). 2015 financial data are analyzed with information prepared under the local and international accounting framework (IFRS), which resulted in the calculation of 17 financial indicators. The mean difference with the Mann-Whitney U test, the Spearman correlation coefficient, and a regression analysis are applied. The independent variable is the applied accounting standard and the dependent variables are the 17 financial indicators. The results show that the liquidity indicators have the largest statistically significant differences and the greatest negative impacts, according to the Spearman coefficient. It is concluded that the sectors analyzed are linked from the operational point of view, given that the effects of the implementation of IFRS are consistent, in some cases, with groupings of financial indicators.
