Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care in a Cohort of Low-Birth-Weight Infants (Less Than 1800 g) in Vietnam

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Advances in neonatal care have improved survival rates for low-birthweight infants, but morbidity and poor quality of life persist, especially in low-income and middle-income countries. Simple, effective interventions are essential to reduce neonatal mortality and improve outcomes. Kangaroo-Mother care (KMC), which was developed in Colombia in 1978, comprises skin-to-skin contact in the Kangaroo position, exclusive breastfeeding and early discharge with follow-up. Vietnam has practiced KMC after stabilisation since 1996 .
