Abstract
The general objective of this paper was to analyze the importance of Strategic
Financial Management and its role in SME Crisis Prediction, for which the research
was structured in three stages: [1] To explain through a bibliometric approach
supported by the Biblioshiny in R tool, the relevance of financial management in
SMEs and the application of Altman's Z'-Score model in crisis prediction. For this
purpose, the Scopus database was queried for the keywords Financial
Management, SME Altman Z'score, Z-Score Model, Z'-Score Model, Z′-Score
Private Firm Model. [2] Financial information was then identified for a sample of 3
companies that had financial problems before and during the pandemic. This
information was consulted in the databases Gestor Comercial y de Crédito, Sistema
Integrado de Información Socientaria - SIIS and Registro Único Empresarial y Social
- RUES. [3] Finally, the bankruptcy prediction model of Edwar Altman: Z'-Score was
applied and its analysis was complemented with the notes to the financial statements
and the opinion of the statutory auditor for each company analyzed. The results
reflect failures and negligence on the part of the companies' managers and
accountants when diagnosing the financial situation and making timely adjustments
or corrections. It is evident how the strategic financial analysis contributes to the
prediction of financial crisis in companies of different sizes and sectors.
