Abstract
One of the more important tasks of medicine has been to seek to relieve pain; in spite of that, there have been fails in given appropriate priority to the treatment of acute pain, in a variety of clinical situations. This paper enunciates principles for the relief of acute pain based on the best scientific evidence currently available and the rationale for agressive pain control in particular in the postoperative setting.
