Abstract
The colluvial deposits are loose and heterogeneous materials composed of soils or rock fragments deposited on the slopes. The Bimsoil term is used for denominate blocks of rock embedded in soil matrix and the strength and stiffness ratio is higher to 2. Frequently, the geotechnical engineer considers the strength of weak matrix in design, which could oversize or undersize in engineering works depending on the nature of matrix. The aim of this work is to compare the strength of soft clayey soil deposit and colluvial deposit with clayey matrix based on two FEM model in order to calculate bearing capacity of a square footing. The bearing capacity in colluvial deposit shows that the blocks contribute to the Bimsoil´s strength for high settlements due to the formation of chains of strength that generate an arc effect. The increment of friction angle due to the blocks in a limit equilibrium formulation is an acceptable approximation for estimate the bearing capacity in a Bimsoil.
