Abstract

This study intends to make a descriptive analysis of the interaction strategies used by the kidnapper with the victim during captivity based on information taken from selected documents containing the victim testimonies. Information was supplemented with data from bibliographic references, profound interviews to GAULA group members. Document content was analyzed by confronting the three information sources. The findings were that there is not a single but a multiple type of kidnappers: kidnappers, persons taking care, commanders, negotiators and suppliers. Likewise, it was evident that the type of relationship that the kidnapper establishes with the victim varies depending on his/her hierarchy in the group, the roll played age, education, ideal-driving motivations and the empathy with the person kidnapped. Other important variables of the study were: kidnapping stage, location, duration and releasing aspects
